ヒカル（佐為）に負けてうなだれるアキラの姿に動揺するヒカルのセリフ。

Did you really just beat the pants off him...?
おまえそんなにコテンパンにやっつけたわけ？

beat the pants off O で、「＜人＞を徹底的に打ち負かす」。
そのまんま、ズボンを下ろして恥をかかせるくらいに叩きのめすイメージか。
ずっとpants ＝ズボンだと思っていたけどこれはアメリカ英語で、辞書によるとイギリス英語では下着のパンツのことを指すらしい。へぇー。

ところで、このbeat という単語。
「誰々が誰々に勝つ」というときはGAME1からずっとbeat が使われていて、win じゃダメなのか？と思っていたところ。

この疑問はシス単を開いたらあっさり解決。
beat は「～に勝つ」。ほぼ同じ意味の単語にdefeat があって、どちらも目的語は敵・相手。
win の場合は試合や賞を目的語にとるから、"win 誰々～" という言い方はできないということだった。

ちなみにwin を使って「誰々に勝つ」と言いたいときは、against を伴うらしい。
この表現はGAME3に出てたな。
