excel...? エクセル？
マイクロソフトの表計算ソフトしか思い浮かばないんだけど(;^ω^)

でもexcel はシス単にも載ってる語で、「優れている」「～にまさる」という意味の動詞。
この語から派生した語が、形容詞excellent 「すばらしい」「優秀な」。
ジーニアス曰く、性質において秀でているときはin 、運動・行為において秀でているときはat を伴うことが多いらしい。

He excels in history. 彼は歴史にひいでている。

ちなみにジーニアスにはこの語の後に、Microsoft 社の表計算ソフトウェアの "Excel" も載ってた。
エクセルの由来が気になってググってみたら、諸説あるものの「他社ソフトに勝る」という意味を込めて付けられたという説が有力らしいから、私が最初にエクセルを思い浮かべたのも当然と言えば当然なわけだ（笑）
