soda　（Vol.1 GAME7: Three Problems of Life and Death より）

詰碁の景品としてジュースをもらったヒカルのセリフ。

What?! Soda...?
え？缶ジュース！？

GAME2から地味に気になっていた、ジュースという語が全て"soda" と訳されている件。

私の中ではsoda って炭酸飲料のイメージだったから、ん？って感じ。
日本語の「ジュース」からは炭酸入りかどうかは分からないと思うんだけど。

しかもGAME2でヒカルが飲んでる缶ジュースはたぶんポカリス◯ットだから、おそらく炭酸入ってない(;^ω^)

"juice" は果汁100%のものを指すから、いわゆる日本語の「ジュース」と言いたいときは "soft drink" を使いましょうと高校で習ったけど……。
（ちなみにsoft drink という言い方は、アルコールが入ってなくて喉に"soft" だから、だって。）

缶ジュースを不思議がる佐為に、ヒカルが「飲み物だよ」と説明するときは確かに "It's a soft drink." と言ってるけど、
囲碁教室のおばさんの「まーっジュースをこんなに！」と「うちの孫もペットボトルをいっつも持ってんのよ」というセリフでは両方とも "soda" が使われてるんだもんなあ。

もしかしてsoda に清涼飲料水の意味があるのかと思って辞書を引いたけど、炭酸清涼飲料の意味しか載ってない。
英英辞典を引いてみても、
1 a sweet drink with bubbles in it that does not contain alcohol
2 water that has bubbles in it and is often mixed with alocohol
3 a chemical substance in common use that is a compound of sodium
で、やっぱり飲み物としては炭酸入りのものを指すらしい。

まさかアメリカにはアルコール以外の飲み物は炭酸飲料しかないのか？
って一瞬思ったけど、そんなわけないだろうし。

結局soda の謎は解けないままだ。
