extremely difficult　（Vol.2 GAME8: Want Me to Lose? より）

難問詰碁を即答した加賀を見て驚く佐為。

This boy solved an extremely difficult Go problem with ease.
いささか難しい詰碁をあっさり解いた

「いささか難しい」が"extremely difficult" ？

それだと「とても難しい」になるんじゃ……？？？
「いささか」難しいってことは、ちょっとは難しいけど、大して難しくはないってことでしょ？

extremely を辞書で調べると、意味は「極度に、極端に」「［形容詞・副詞を強調して］とても」。
一応英英辞典も引いてみると、こちらはシンプルに"very" の意味とだけ書いてあった。
てことは、extremely difficult はやっぱり「とても難しい」の意味になるはず。

まさか私の日本語力の問題か！？と思って国語辞典で「いささか」を引いてみたけど、「程度が大きくないようす」「大したことでないようす」「すこし」と書いてあったので、間違いではなくて一安心(^^;)

extremely が使われているのは、佐為にとっては大したことない詰碁の問題も、他の人にとっては激ムズだから……？

ところでさ。加賀が碁盤に押しつけたものが、途中でタバコからガムに変わってるのが気になる。
Hikaru, this boy put out that dirty cigarette in the Go board!
